The Ten Commandments

As you read through the Ten Commandments, you are encouraged to take a good honest look at how well you know and incorporate them into your life.  Give yourself a score as to how well you know each commandment and a score of how well you live each commandment.

(Click the links to read a short summary and see a short video on each Commandment)

  1. I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange gods before me.
  2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
  3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.
  4. Honor your father and your mother.
  5. You shall not kill.
  6. You shall not commit adultery.
  7. You shall not steal.
  8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

Well, how did you do? If you feel you have some improvements to make, what one Commandment would be good for you to begin working on this week? Click on its corresponding link above to learn more about that command and then, make a resolution toward aligning yourself with God's wisdom in that Commandment.

If you are like many people, you may simply want to begin by memorizing the commandments. Make it a contest with a friend or family member to simply memorize the commandments in order. Just doing that, will help you, and a friend, become more aware of them in your daily life which will in turn help you make better choices each day.

One way to memorize the Commandments and order your life to follow and experience their joy and freedom, is by praying the Ten Commandment Prayer.   Another way is to have a copy of the Commandments displayed in your home. You can print one of several styles of the Commandments from our Resource page and put in one of the picture frames you likely have in the back of a closet.

If you are looking for a deeper understanding of the Commandments, their invitation to greatness and how to apply them to daily life, take a look at our video study of the Commandments. Also, to see how the Commandments are relevant in daily life and in society, visit our Blog page.
